Water, water, water II

This is part II to read part I click here Water, Water, Water I

We would really like to do some boondocking in the future but we are not quite ready. While I have a generator, my single marine 12 Volt battery that came with the trailer is the wrong battery for the job. A couple of 6 Volt golf cart batteries and solar panels will be a necessary addition I think.

We also did not do so well with our grey water usage on trip number one. We had to dump the grey tank twice on a trip of just over forty-eight hours. On our to do list for this trip was to not create as much grey water. It’s actually a fun task to try to curb some of our bad habits and learn to be more efficient. One of the things we did was use the two sink method of washing dishes instead of letting the water run continually. I was able to trim my shower water usage a little more which helped also. We also now use a bucket to collect water from the sink and shower while waiting for warm water. We then use that water for the toilet, this will help us make our potable water last longer when we don’t have a water hookup. The results of our efforts was that we were at the 2/3’rds full mark on day three, a marked improvement over our first trip. For our next trip I will get some tubs to do the dishes in so we can pour the dirty water out and not put it into our grey water tank.

The first places that we try to boondock will have a dump station and potable water, I purchased a portable waste tank that I can use to empty my tanks and tow to the dump station without moving the trailer. That with a couple of large jugs to haul water and we will be able to try what I call beginners boondocking, or boondocking with a safety net.
