Sanitizing your fresh water tank

Yesterday I de-winterized my trailer, a little early as we still have a few more sub freezing nights ahead.  I needed to go ahead and get it done because it is a new trailer and I have an appointment on the 18th to fix any problems I might have found.  I have checked everything out except the water system so I needed to get it done.  I posted a video of the de-winterizing on my website www.katskamper.com if you would like to watch.

After the de-winterization I sanitized the whole system.  To do this I ensured the heater was in the bypass mode and mixed bleach with water and added it to my fresh water tank.  The formula is as follows:  1/4 cup of bleach to 1 gallon of water per 15 gallons of water.  You mix this solution and add it to your freshwater tank.  Fill the tank all the way with water and run each faucet until you can smell the bleach.  You can then take your trailer for a short ride to slosh the solution around the inside of your tank.  Wait at least 4 hours and drain the tank.  Refill the tank and flush each faucet until you no longer smell the bleach.  If needed you can drain and flush the system additional times.  If you don’t want to wait 4 hours you can use 1/2 cup of bleach per gallon per 15 gallons and leave it in for at least 1 hour.  Everything checks out so our next step is a short shakedown trip.
